It was a cold night. I looked up at the half-moon in the sky and shivered slightly. It was midnight, and the hunt was on. I made my way to the bar, where I knew my mark was going to be.
My eyes darted around nervously as I crossed the street, and my ears began to hear the sound of music. The music that would soon become a eulogy, for either myself, or my mark. I cocked my gun, that sweet sound, and huddled closer to myself, raising my guard and nearing the window of Loose Change, my final destination.
I walked past the window, where I knew my mark, whose instrument I could hear, was standing. I glanced inside for a brief moment... first to his right, then to his left, then, into his eyes, for just a split second. And I knew that I had been noticed. I continued walking, past the entrance, and stood with my back against the wall, so that I could not be seen.
I knew my target. I knew his hometown, his home high school, his dorm building, his roommate, his face... I even knew the brand of instrument he was playing that night, and I could recognize its sound beating in sync with my racing heartbeat. My pulse continued to race as my mind began analyzing the situation. I then gathered my wits. It was now or never. I waited until the entrance of the bar was clear, then made my way into the crowd as they finished the number. They cheered, I cheered, and a break was called for the band.
I advanced through the crowd, keeping him in my sights, and at point blank range, as his gaze was lowered, I pulled out my gun and shot him in the chest. He shook slightly from the sound and shock, looked up at me in disbelief... and extended his hand.
He was not easy prey. We talked for a little while, and I soon left after retrieving my ammo. Retreating into the silent darkness of the night, I knew that it was only going to get harder...
Long and short, this was much harder than my last assassination, and I am glad to have played alongside this one. He played the cards dealt him very well. He also played the same instrument as I do... which made this carry a sort of personal tone to it, for myself.
Kudos to you, sir.
