Are there any rules about "upgrading" my weapon? As in if I produced a more powerful spring-firing option on my weapon, could I use it instead of a simple store-bought weapon?

As long as it doesn't produce harmful results, you can do whatever you'd like to your gun. I don't want anybody getting hurt.

I think the important thing is that it fires a vanilla nerf dart. IE no mods to the dart. Cause no matter how fast its going, a foam dart wont hurt that much unless eyes are involved...

This is good. No thumbtacks or anything. I suppose Stefan darts are OK as well.

It shoots farther, probly by about 2 or 3 feet.

here's a question about mods- I've found multiple plan ideas for modding super soakers into nerf guns. They'd still shoot the normal darts, just more powerful (like 40-50ft in range).
Is this legal?

As long as it shoots normal darts and there are no harmful side effects, go for it.

I've made mods to several of my guns, very good idea to do, just make sure not to ruin teh gun by getting too carried away. I used this site for some mods: www.nerfhq.com/articles.php
